Khachmas (Xacmaz) is a small city located a few kilometers from the coast of the Caspian Sea, near the border with Russia. The distance to Baku is about 180 kilometers. The first mention of settlements on the site of Khachmas dates back to the beginning of the 19th century. Khachmas received city status in 1938. Now it is an administrative regional center, the population is over 50 thousand inhabitants.

The region is located in the north-west of Azerbaijan, occupies most of the Samur-Devechi lowland. Khachmaz region in the north borders on Russia. The main highway and the Baku-Moscow railway pass through the territory of the region. 20800 hectares of the region are covered with forests, 8 rivers flow, there are 3 artificial lakes. The climate is temperate, there are springs of thermal and mineral waters. In the flora of the region, medicinal plants are widespread, such as wild rose, bindweed, St. John’s wort, fireweed, lemon balm, etc. There are good conditions for hunting and fishing in the region. The Gyulalni nature reserve is located on the territory of the region.

Khudat (Azerbaijani Xudat) is a city in the Khachmaz region of Azerbaijan, in the north of the country, near the coast of the Caspian Sea, 184 km from Baku. It is located in the Samur-Divichinsky lowland. The climate is warm, subtropical.
