Toto Cutugno passed away – VIDEO

Composer and singer, Italian pop veteran Toto Cutugno has died at the age of 80. This was reported by the agency ANSA.

According to him, he died in the San Raffaele hospital in Milan, where he was hospitalized.

As the manager of the performer Danilo Mancuso told the agency, “after a long illness, the singer has become worse in recent months.”

Cutugno was born on July 7, 1943 in the Tuscan town of Fosdinovo. At the age of 19, he organized the Toto e Tati group, with which he toured Italy, and since 1975 he has been performing with the Albatros group. Cutugno collaborated with the French singer Joe Dassin, as well as Andriano Celentano, writing for the latter the famous composition Soli.

In 1980, Cutugno began his solo career. He became famous with the song L’italiano, recorded in 1983. In 1990, the singer won the Eurovision Song Contest with the song Insieme: 1992 about European unity.

By some estimates, Cutugno was one of the most successful Italian singers – more than 100 million records with his songs were sold. In December 2013, Toto Cutugno performed in Baku, where he sang the song Sarı gəlin.
